The purpose of Walk USA For Health Equity (WUHE) is to highlight America’s desperate health conditions in communities of color, promote positive community healthy lifestyles programs throughout the U.S., and provide education about getting and staying healthy. COVID’s devastating impact on Americans with pre-existing, pre-disposing, and often, preventable medical conditions have served as a call to action and the creation of WUHE.
To focus the national spotlight on the importance of reversing and preventing disease, the need for a healthy lifestyle revolution to optimize health, and to promote positive work being done to advance health in communities of color throughout the U.S. Dr. Dennis Godby, a California-licensed Naturopathic Doctor and former high school social justice teacher will begin his walk across America on September 12, 2022, in Myrtle Beach, SC.
As a 44 year veteran of long runs and walks of conscience for health and social justice, Dr. Godby, 66, plans to inspire transformation in individuals, community-based program efforts, and local/state and national policymaking. This walk will be powered by volunteers and other health equity advocates across the country. On September 12, 2022, in Myrtle Beach, SC local efforts will be organized by Ut-Uyen Van Hoogen, a local champion for justice, and a former student of Dr. Godby’s.
Dr. Godby and WUHE will partner with local communities across South and North Carolina and Tennessee, in learning how WUHE may assist in their efforts to overcome health challenges, and join in the walk with fellow South and North Carolinians, and Tennesseans to build coalitions along the 600-mile journey to Knoxville, TN. The first fifth of The Walk will arrive In Knoxville on October 12. The final four-fifths of the walk, 2,500 miles across the remainder of the USA will be completed in four consecutive September/October months from 2023 to 2026, ending in Seattle, WA.
